Career Advising Services

Move from confusion and stagnation to clarity, insight, and purpose-driven action!

If you are looking for guidance and an outside perspective on career decisions, relationships, or long-term goals in your life, you have come to the right place! My services help in many situations, including:

  • Young adults: Knowing your interests, values, and personality so that you can make the best decisions about starting a career, choosing a college major, and more.
  • Midlife and beyond: Re-examining choices, recognizing strengths, finding opportunities for growth and fulfillment.
  • Later life: This phase offers tremendous opportunity to live out your values and interests. What would you like to do next?
  • For everyone: Ensuring that you’re living your best life (not somebody else’s).

Getting Started

Need help making a career decision? Choose the $500 package, which includes a review of your interests, personality and values compared to labor market demands. This package includes consultation (about 4 hours) along with “homework,” including inventories and readings. At completion you’ll have identified 1-3 potential career goals!

Along with traditional assessments and focused questions, I use specific methods such as “80,000 hours” to guide you in the process of self-knowledge and planning.

Mid or later career re-examination? For those at mid-career and beyond, an assessment of your skills and strengths gained to date will be especially important. It’s not too late to make a change, using your current assets as a springboard. We will also talk about work-life balance, relationships, and interests outside of work.

Meetings will take place in a public location in the Tacoma/Lakewood area that allows for private conversation. My rate is $125 per hour with a 50% discount for the initial meeting.

How are advising and career counseling different than life coaching or therapy?

  • Career counselors and advisors have a broader scope of practice than life coaches. Advisors and counselors also typically have a higher level of education (see Cherry, 2024). I encourage you to evaluate and find the type of service that is right for you.
  • Therapists, such as mental health counselors and clinical psychologists, work with a range of clients, including those with significant psychological challenges and/or past trauma. If, during the course of our work together, it appears that you would benefit from such services, I will assist you with a referral.
